Plans & credits

Credits & metering

How the credit ledger works, the two guardrails that stop an overrun, and why your renewal date is not the first of the month.

BoostEcom is a flat monthly fee that includes credits. There is no per-token invoice to decipher at the end of the month.

The amounts per tier live in Plans & limits — deliberately in one place only, so they cannot disagree with each other.

The ledger

Credits are an append-only ledger, not a counter that gets overwritten. Every grant and every consumption is a row. Your balance is the sum, which means:

  • The history is auditable: you can always see what consumed what.
  • A bug can add a correcting row, never silently rewrite the past.
  • GET /api/usage reads the live ledger, not a cached figure.

Markup

Model usage is billed at 1.5× the underlying provider cost on the priced tiers, and at 1.0× on Custom. That multiplier is the margin and it is stated rather than hidden inside an opaque "credit" unit.

The two guardrails

Both are hard, and both apply at every plan and every autonomy level:

1. Pre-stream estimate. Before a request runs, its cost is estimated. If the estimate exceeds your balance, the request is refused with 402 and nothing streams. You are never charged for a request that was always going to run out.

2. Mid-stream hard cap. A long generation is metered as it runs. The moment the running cost reaches your balance, the stream is aborted. A request cannot overrun into a negative balance.

Renewal is your anniversary, not the 1st

Monthly credits reset on your subscription's anchor day, the day of the month you subscribed, not on the first. A store that subscribed on the 18th refreshes on the 18th.

The daily cron walks organisations whose anchor day is today. Every grant is idempotent: the cron, the subscription.created webhook and the invoice.paid backstop all write through the same key, so three paths to the same month's credits still grant them once.

Daily bonus

Priced tiers accrue a small daily bonus on top of the monthly allowance. It is per organisation, and it expires at midnight UTC and does not accumulate. The amounts are in Plans & limits.

Tax

Stripe Tax is active at checkout (EU VAT and US sales tax). When you buy credits, the grant reads the pre-tax amount. You are never granted credits for the tax you paid, and never short-changed by it either.

Reading your usage

| Surface | What it gives | |---|---| | GET /api/usage | The live ledger for your organisation. | | /<org>/~/billing | Subscription state, invoices, plan. | | /<org>/~/billing/activate | Post-checkout: the real state of each webhook before it hands back. |

That last one is worth knowing about. After a checkout it shows whether the payment, the subscription, the plan change and the credit grant have each actually landed — rather than spinning a timer and hoping.
